The most common reason for this complaint
is that the thermocouple is bad. If you replace the thermocouple and you still
have all this problem, make sure you call for service. There probably is a
problem with the furnace that would demand professional service. .
This is
usually caused by a down draft or possibly the furnace being located in an
area where it can be exposed to a severe draft. Be careful about trying to
seal a your mechanical closet to prevent this problem. Mechanical closets need
to have a openings for fresh air to enter for proper combustion of the fuel
burned by the furnace. Make sure that the door on your mechanical closet is
closed. Due to the safety issues involved, it is suggested that you call for
professional service if this problem persists.
This
symptom usually indicates a problem with the fan control on older furnaces. On
some furnaces, other safety circuits can cause this symptom. Since safety is
one of our primary goals at Sunbelt, we would recommend that you not try to
make this repair your self.
If
your fan is running all of the time, make sure you have checked your fan
switch on the thermostat. It should be in the "Auto" position for
the fan to operate only when the furnace is heating. If your fan switch is in
the "Auto" position, and the fan will not shut off, you need to call
for service.
